We’re starting a new monthly Dementia Café in Edgbaston, and we’re looking for a freelance, proactive, and compassionate Project Manager to coordinate and lead the programme.
Job Title: Dementia Caf Project Manager (Freelance)
Location: Hybrid - remote working with optional office space in Stirchley, Birmingham
Fee: ÂŁ200 per day (freelance rate)
Time Commitment: 2 days/week (flexible), including weekly team meetings on Thursdays
Contract: Freelance, fixed term (12 months to begin with)
Reports to: CEO

You'll be responsible for building the caf from the ground up, identifying the best location and time, liaising with partners and artists, supporting a small volunteer team, and ensuring smooth delivery. This is a practical and relational role, requiring strong organisation, empathy, and community focus.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver a monthly in-person dementia caf (location and timing to be confirmed through community consultation)
- Facilitate the smooth running of sessions, supporting artists with setup and logistics
- Work closely with our CEO to shape a programme of activities including music, movement, talks, nature walks, and peer support
- Build relationships with participants and co-design future activities based on their interests and feedback
- Recruit, coordinate, and support a small team of volunteers (5-6), including training where necessary
- Keep accurate records on our CRM, http://monday.com/ - Monday.com
- Monitor attendance, engagement, and impact through feedback tools and reports
- Support outreach to local businesses for small partnership or funding opportunities
- Attend weekly online team meetings on Thursdays and collaborate with the CEO on project strategy and planning
Essential:
- Experience in project coordination, community engagement, or health/wellbeing settings
- Understanding of or experience working with people living with dementia and/or carers
- Good local knowledge of Edgbaston and/or the surrounding areas.
- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- Experience using digital tools like CRM systems and Monday.com (training will be provided)
- Ability to work independently, flexibly, and reliably
- Commitment to inclusive practice and community empowerment
Desirable:
- Experience working with volunteers and/or artists
- Understanding of local health or social care networks
- Familiarity with fundraising or partnership development
Additional Requirements:
- An enhanced DBS check (funded by Cayr Charity)
- Willingness to travel locally within Birmingham for monthly caf and other project duties (travel expenses covered)
