Job Description

Collective Acting Studio's ambition is to ensure every student develops necessary skills for a sustainable acting career or related creative industry role after graduation.

Our overarching mission prioritizes teaching professional skills at an excellent level through an inclusion curriculum celebrating the identity and heritage of our diverse student body. This means ensuring diversity in practitioners, texts, learning resources, and our skilled staff team.

The BA Acting Course Leader will take responsibility for artistic leadership and academic management. As a Senior Leadership Team member, they'll contribute to strategic direction while delivering a degree that maintains high-quality actor training alongside cutting-edge stage and screen practices and new performance material creation.

Working with the CEO, they'll ensure Collective Acting Studio remains at the forefront of global actor-training practices and innovative student-centered pedagogy. The Course Leader will develop teaching, learning and assessment methods centered on equity, diversity and inclusion.

The post holder must maintain ongoing professional practice in acting/directing, contributing to positive student outcomes through experience-enhancing initiatives. In consultation with the Student Support Officer, they'll ensure curriculum accessibility for disabled students, fully integrating them into the training through necessary differentiation.

0.8 FTE Salary: £33,200

Job Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • First Degree required (Masters, PGCE, and HEA Fellowship desirable)

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Extensive professional experience in directing and/or acting for stage/screen
  • Significant teaching experience in drama school or equivalent setting
  • Experience in HE curriculum design and development
  • Knowledge of actor-training sector and network of diverse practitioners
  • Commitment to ongoing professional practice
  • Strong ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Advanced communication, teaching, and presentation skills
  • Experience in student assessment and learning evaluation
  • Problem-solving abilities with complex issues
  • Well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills

Work Terms:

  • 3-year fixed-term contract (0.8 FTE, expandable)
  • £33,200 actual salary (based on £41,500 full-time)
  • 28 hours weekly plus unpaid lunch breaks
  • 15 teaching hours within this allocation
  • Some evening/weekend work required

Job Responsibilities

Senior Leadership Position at Collective Acting Studio

Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve on Senior Leadership Team, chairing meetings as needed
  • Lead teaching and development of acting/directing performances
  • Manage academic program quality, documentation, and compliance
  • Recruit and lead hourly staff in acting and productions
  • Oversee quality assurance and program development processes
  • Coordinate with Admissions on marketing and recruitment
  • Build industry relationships with theaters, directors, agents, etc.

General Duties:

  • Teach across Studio programs as needed
  • Participate in Academic Board and committees
  • Contribute to student assessment and feedback
  • Support student recruitment and welfare
  • Serve as Personal Academic Tutor for assigned students
  • Line-manage full/part-time staff where relevant
  • Ensure health and safety standards
  • Work collaboratively to achieve shared institutional goals
