Job Description

We are seeking a Course Leader to lead and coordinate a specialist music degree programme at dBs Manchester.

The role combines academic leadership, teaching, curriculum oversight and student support, ensuring students receive a high-quality, industry-relevant learning experience across all years of study.

You will act as the main academic contact for students, oversee course organisation and progression, support Module Leaders, and ensure consistency of curriculum delivery, assessment and student experience.

Specialisms may include Music Performance & Songwriting, Music and Sound for Film/Game, or Electronic Music Production.

You will contribute to teaching within your area of expertise, maintain current industry knowledge, and support employability through industry engagement and live projects.

The role works across a collaborative cross-campus faculty spanning Bristol, Manchester and Plymouth, with shared approaches to curriculum, quality and academic standards.

You will work closely with the Quality Lead, Head of Campus, Course Leaders and support teams to maintain high standards of teaching, student engagement and course delivery.

The role is offered on a flexible basis from 0.6 FTE to full time depending on specialism and teaching allocation.

Job Requirements

Applicants should have strong professional or academic experience in Music Performance, Songwriting, Music and Sound for Film/Game, Electronic Music Production or related disciplines.

You should have experience of teaching, mentoring, course coordination or academic leadership within higher education, further education or professional training environments.

A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional industry experience, is required. A teaching qualification such as PGCert HE or FHEA is desirable.

You should have strong communication, organisational and leadership skills, alongside a commitment to inclusive, industry-connected teaching and learning.

Knowledge of UK higher education standards, assessment and quality processes is desirable, along with experience of curriculum development and student support.

Job Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate the academic delivery of a specialist music degree programme, ensuring a coherent and supportive student journey across all levels.

Act as the main academic contact for students, supporting progression, module selection and academic development.

Support and work collaboratively with Module Leaders to ensure high standards of curriculum delivery, assessment and student experience.

Monitor student engagement, progression and retention, contributing to course review, enhancement and quality processes.

Teach within your specialist area, maintain current industry knowledge and support employability through industry engagement and live projects.

Contribute to recruitment activity including interviews, open days and outreach events, while working collaboratively with academic teams across Bristol, Manchester and Plymouth.
