Theatre Company Stories in the Dust are looking for a Costume Designer and Maker for their upcoming R&D project of a new touring family show.

Job Description

Stories in the Dust create bold, musical and ambitious original theatre for ages 5-12. Their previous show, of the same name, toured from 2022 - 2026 and the company have now received Arts Council funding to develop a new piece of work. The company make sustainable, eco focussed work that is created alongside the Applied Environmental Science Department at Southampton University, that tours nationally, and is delivered alongside extensive outreach projects. The team are looking for an ambitious new member of the team to: Design and make 2 costumes and additional costume pieces using 90% recycled and reclaimed materials.

Job Requirements

Stories in the Dust's style is: bold, cinematic, spacious, suspenseful, playful, unexpected and fun.
They like costumes that are: Unexpected, a-symetrical, creative, clever, bold and that are obviously made out of recycled and reclaimed materials.

This is a paid, flexible role with 6 days allocated across mid July to mid September, with work in progress performances starting from week beginning 14th of September. Rehearsals will take place at Salisbury Playhouse.

Job Responsibilities

Project Timeline:
Mid-end of July - Working in the room and remotely to initially develop the work.
August - Working remotely to further develop and build the songs/soundscapes.
September - Working in the room to prepare for WIP sharings.
Fee: 6 x days @ £200/day.
