This is an exciting opportunity for a community-engaged artist, with lived experience of disability. The artist will work with a group of young women, with lived experience of disability, to make creative responses to the collection of Jean Stone MBE, to feature in an exhibition in Wycombe Arts Centre in March 2026. This exhibition and associated programming is part of a wider programme of work exploring influential, pioneering women in the Paralympic Movement. Objectives To explore the Jean Stone collection and other supporting material provided by NPHT To connect young women with the life of Jean Stone and her contribution to disability sport, through the delivery of creative workshops To connect a wider audience with the life of Jean Stone through your own creative outputs and those of the curation group you support Outputs Your own creative response to the collection To deliver four-six workshops with young women at Wycombe Arts Centre, on Wednesdays 4th, 11th and 18th February 2026, resulting in a piece or collection of work representing your own and the group's responses To work with NPHT to prepare this work for an exhibition at Wycombe Arts Centre in March and April 2026 (c. 4th March - 13th April) To deliver two workshops for the wider public during the exhibition run (1st or 8th April) The project will create wider outputs, which the artist and group will be consulted upon: A learning resource for secondary schools Digital content, including vlogs, about the exhibition and Jean Stone's life and collection Resources The archive of Jean Stone, approximately 100 boxes of material relating to her professional career Objects relating to Jean Stone's life including trophies and awards (10 boxes of objects) An oral history with Jean Stone (2012) Knowledge and understanding of the delivery team. NPHT will also recruit the young people involved in the project Broader content about the Paralympics and pioneering women, shared on the museum's website Timetable This is an indicative timetable for delivery: November: Recruit project artist December: Meet with artist and agree approach Recruitment of young people February: Workshops with young people (4th, 11th, 18th Feb, Wycombe Arts Centre) February: Exhibition production March: Exhibition launch (c.4th March) Programme of creative workshops (1st or 8th April) March-mid April: Exhibition run (c.4th March to 13th April) April: Exhibition moves We're looking for a community engaged artist to make their own creative response alongside facilitating responses from the group, to feature in the exhibition. The archive is text-based, so we're particularly interested in applications from artists who enjoy the use of the spoken word or language-based forms in their practice. We are very open to all ideas of the choice of medium used in the exhibition. Budget There is a budget of £3,500 for the artist, which is worked out as 10 days @ £350 a day and includes: Making your own response and facilitating creative responses from the group The development and delivery of four to six half-day workshops (taking place over two to three days) Supporting the exhibition production and attending the launch The delivery of two half day workshops to the wider public in April. There is an additional budget of £2,000 for workshop materials and exhibition production.
