Norfolk Museums Service is seeking to appoint a Communications Manager to lead on media engagement, public relations and stakeholder advocacy across our ten museums.

Job Description

This is an exciting time to join our service as we approach the completion of a major capital project to transform the Norman Keep within Norwich Castle and the opening of the new Gallery of Medieval Life: A British Museum Partnership. As Communications Manager, you will lead on media relations, maximise PR opportunities, and plan high-profile opening events.

You will have a proven track record of effective communications work, event planning abilities, and sound working knowledge of local, regional and national media, including specialist arts and heritage press.

Job Requirements

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of managing communications with the arts or heritage.
  • A proven track record of dealing with press enquiries and media handling.
  • Experience of commissioning contractors and consultants.
  • Experience of event management
  • Strong organisation and planning skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Confidence in public speaking

Job Responsibilities

Norfolk Museums Service consists of 10 museums and the role of the Communications Manager is to promote the work of all ten sites to the public and to elected members, funders and policy makers, working in close collaboration with museum marketing colleagues.

The post holder will lead on communications, public relations and advocacy to actively promote the work of Norfolk Museums Service (NMS) to the public, press, governing bodies, funders and other stakeholders by producing communications such as press releases, digital content, case studies and annual reports, and by organising events that promote the achievements of NMS.
