Job Description

Saltaire World Heritage Education Association is seeking a consultant with professional knowledge in the care and conservation of collections that are predominantly document and image based.
The consultant will
provide a comprehensive skills development programme for six experienced volunteers and a board trustee
further develop SWHEA's Conservation and Care Policy and Plan
enable our volunteers to manage the safe movement of the collection to ensure appropriate storage and care in our new premises
support the long-term preservation of our objects and help facilitate public access, appropriate to the safety of collection items
ensure that volunteers gain the knowledge and skills that have a lasting impact on the preservation of our collection
ensure that the developed policy, plan and procedures offers clear day-to-day guidance for the preservation of our collection in the long term. See link below

Job Requirements

We are seeking a professional Conservation Consultant to support our experienced volunteers in the further development of their skills and to deliver a SPECTRUM compliant care and conservation policy, plan and procedures.
The consultant will
assess current capabilities, resources, policies, plans and procedures and make recommendations for continuing improvement
provide a comprehensive skills development programme for six experienced volunteers and a board trustee
further develop SWHEA's Conservation and Care Policy and Plan
enable our volunteers to manage the safe movement of the collection to ensure appropriate storage and care in our new premises
support the long-term preservation of our objects and help facilitate public access, appropriate to the safety of collection items
ensure that volunteers gain the knowledge and skills that have a lasting impact on the preservation of our collection
ensure that the developed policy, plan and procedures offers clear day-to-day

Job Responsibilities

Key Deliverables
initial benchmarking exercise to inform delivery of the consultancy, using relevant standards such as the National Conservation Service's Benchmarks 3.0 as applicable
assessment of the skill levels and skill gaps for the volunteers and trustee taking the work forward
identification of the training workshops required to upskill the volunteers and trustee involved in care and conservation planning
lead the training workshops and ensure feedback from the trainees informs the further development of policy, plan and produce any relevant training documents or guidance notes for future use
finalise the policy plan and procedures, ensuring it complies with national standards
prepare a report to SWHEA's board of governance presenting the policy, plan and procedures by end December 2026
complete a short evaluation report which describes the impact of your project to enable us to report the value of investment through Museum Development North
