We are seeking a friendly and detail-oriented Box Office Manager to join our team during Southwell Music Festival 2025 on a temporary, freelance basis. The role is part of the frontline professional team for our busy four-day festival. You'll be based in our Festival Hub in Trebeck Hall, alongside our General Manager, Festival Hub Manager, Volunteers and Festival Maker apprentices. The role demands excellent standards of customer service, both in-person and over the telephone. You will be the face of the Box Office. You'll be selling tickets and merchandise for concerts and events, distributing pre-booked tickets and answering general event enquiries from members of the public. You'll also train, supervise and support our Festival Maker apprentices and Volunteers as part of the professional team, alongside our General Manager and Festival Hub Manager. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to handle cash transactions accurately, and a passion for live music and/or the arts. Fee: £1,000 fee for 60 working hours in total (equivalent to £16.66 ph). Hours The role fluctuates between busy and quieter periods, around the pattern of festival concerts and events. Expected shifts: 20/08 & 21/08: 8:30am to 5:30pm, with an hour for lunch and two other short breaks. 22/08 & 23/08: 8:30am to 10:15pm, with two extended breaks during the day and two other short breaks (expected 10 working hours each day). 24/08: 9:30am to 8pm, with one extended break during the day and two other short breaks (expected 9 working hours). 25/08: 9:00am to 5pm, with an hour for lunch and two other short breaks. Lunch will be provided on the above days, plus an evening meal for late shifts. You will also need to be available during the setup of the Festival Hub (half day on 18/08) and for training on (half day on 19/08) - approx. 8 hours in total by mutual agreement. We will consider a job share or adjustments to hours for the right candidate. Greet our customers in a friendly and welcoming manner, and assist them with purchasing tickets for concerts and events. Provide information about ticket prices, seating and event programmes. Use our ticketing system (TicketSource) to book and print tickets (training will be provided but you will need to pick this up quickly and train others in use of the system). Process payments with excellent attention to detail and due care (cash and card payments). Handle questions from customers and resolve any ticket booking issues. Maintain a clean and organised box office area. Assist with ticket booking for artists, VIP guests and press at the festival. Other general duties as deemed appropriate by the General Manager and/or Festival Hub Manager. Essential: Prior experience in an in-person Customer Service environment, ideally gained in a Box Office or Front of House setting, or similar. A passion for the arts and ideally live music. Excellent communication and people skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to handle payments and transactions with care. Confident user of IT, electronic systems and common software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Suite). An ability to remain calm under pressure during busy periods. Well-organised and trustworthy. A willingness to learn. Flexible and adaptable. Desirable - some or all of the following: Proficiency using TicketSource or another professional ticketing system (e.g. Spektrix). Experience of working in a classical music and/or community arts environment. Experience of training and supervising others. Experience of working with a wide range of customers, including people with additional needs. Experience of selling merchandise and/or products.
