Job Description

Bridport Museum Trust seeks an experienced Audience Development Consultant to support its National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project, Re-imagining Bridport Museum for its Centenary. The total fee for this contract is up to £14,000.

Working closely with staff, Trustees and a wider consultant team, the consultant will help shape a sustainable, inclusive and engaging future for the Museum as it plans towards its 2032 centenary. The role will contribute to strategic decision-making, including exploration of a potential new building acquisition, audience growth and organisational resilience.

Job Requirements

The consultant should be able to demonstrate:

Significant practical knowledge and experience of undertaking audience research;

The skills to undertake consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders;

Experience of working with museums and / or charitable trusts on similar projects;

An understanding of the challenges facing small regional museums;

Willingness to engage positively with wider consultant team working on the project;

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;

Capacity and flexibility to commence the assignment immediately following appointment.

Job Responsibilities

Drawing on historic visitor data and other means to establish the current audience profile for Bridport Museum, and benchmark this against the demographic data and social profiling of our principal catchment area;

Developing a consultation plan informed by discussion with the Museum Manager, Project Manager, Architect and Business Planning Consultant;

Establishing the meaning and value of Bridport Museum and its collections, and the potential benefits of taking on the LSI through consultation with key stakeholders

Identifying the factors which motivate or deter visits to Bridport Museum

Reviewing existing activity and identifying the opportunities provided by the LSI's potential to provide flexible space to put more of the collection on display and deliver events, exhibitions and community engagement;

Recommending actions which will contribute to increased visitor numbers, volunteer participation and environmental sustainability.

Preparing interim and final reports.
