Job Summary

We’re seeking an inspiring male theatre-maker with a specialism in film or music to co-deliver DreamArts Rep Company. A theatre company that devises and tours original productions by artists from refugee backgrounds that fuse theatre, film and rap music.

Job Description

https://www.instagram.com/dreamarts_rep/ - DreamArts Rep Company is a young theatre company creating original work that fuses theatre, film & rap. We collaborate with artists aged 14-25 from refugee backgrounds to devise, perform & tour fictional stories they create. Our 2025 tour reached over 1,000 live audience members, 20,000+ online viewers & 150 workshop participants. Partner theatres include York Theatre Royal, Birmingham Rep, The Crucible, Exeter Northcott & Marylebone Theatre.

DreamArts Rep positions young refugees as artists first, empowering them to tell stories beyond the labels of "asylum-seeker" or "refugee." Our work celebrates creativity and individuality while fostering dialogue & belonging. Over 70% of audiences come from refugee backgrounds, and partner venues receive mentorship to build lasting engagement.

What we do:

Create theatre based in storytelling - developing characters, locations & narratives inspired by what young people are passionate about.

Work with the young person in front of us and what they bring to the group.

Create a safe space for young people to express themselves as artists.

Provide access to a therapeutic team and support

What we don't do:

Make theatre about young people's experiences as refugees or their journeys to the UK.

Ask young people to share personal experiences - sharing happens only at their pace.

Label the group by their backgrounds - we present them as young artists.

About the Role
We're seeking an inspiring male theatre-maker with a track record in devised performance. You'll co-deliver our programme with the Artistic Director, leading creative sessions through film or music & co-producing touring performances.

You'll bring artistic excellence and collaboration, using music or film to enrich devised storytelling. The role involves supporting young people with lived experience of trauma, expanding the company's reach through partnerships and community engagement. Training in DreamArts' therapeutic approaches

Co-create and produce a high-quality touring production.
Build supportive relationships with participants.
Support touring, outreach, and audience engagement.
Capture and share impact as part of research into refugee-led arts.

Specialism in film (devising, shooting, editing, projection) or music (composing, producing, sound design).
Skilled workshop facilitator with young people.
Ability to build trust with refugees and marginalised youth.
Knowledge of inclusive, trauma-informed practice.

Working days Wed, Thurs & Fri - £35,000 pro rata @ 2.5 days per week plus residential fees
@ £350 per day x 16 days per annum.
