Job Summary

We’re seeking an inspiring male theatre-maker to join DreamArts Rep as Associate Artist & Assistant Producer. You’ll co-devise and tour ambitious original productions fusing theatre, film and music with young artists from refugee backgrounds, supporting their creative development and wellbeing.

Job Description

DreamArts Rep is an acclaimed theatre company of young artists aged 14-25 from refugee backgrounds. Based at Marylebone Theatre, we devise and tour bold, original productions fusing theatre, film, music and lyricism.

Since launching in 2020, we've performed to thousands of people at venues including Sheffield Crucible, Birmingham Rep, Theatre Royal Plymouth and York Theatre Royal, receiving five-star reviews and national recognition.

Our approach puts young people first as artists, creating professional-quality theatre while nurturing confidence, wellbeing, belonging and creative ambition. We develop fictional stories together rather than asking young people to share personal experiences of displacement or trauma.

About the Role

We're seeking an inspiring, collaborative male theatre-maker to join us as Associate Artist & Assistant Producer.

Working alongside our Artistic Director, you'll co-lead creative sessions, helping young people devise, rehearse and perform ambitious original theatre. You'll bring strong skills in directing, storytelling and ensemble practice, alongside a commitment to artistic excellence.

You'll build positive, trusting relationships with young people, creating an inclusive and supportive ensemble where creativity, fun and artistic ambition can thrive.

Alongside theatre-making, you'll help produce touring performances, develop partnerships and engage new audiences, particularly from refugee communities and first-time theatregoers.

Above all, we're looking for an experienced theatre practitioner with excellent facilitation skills, a collaborative approach and a passion for creating outstanding work with young people. Scriptwriting, filmmaking and producing experience are desirable but not essential.

You'll receive training in DreamArts' therapeutic approaches, including PACE, and opportunities for professional development.

We're particularly interested in someone who wants to make a long-term commitment to the company.

Job Requirements

We're seeking a male theatre-maker to:
-Co-lead weekly devising and rehearsal sessions.
-Create ambitious, professional-quality touring productions.
-Build trusting relationships and support young people's wellbeing.
-Support touring, outreach, partnerships and audience development.

This is a predominately male participant group, and therefore, a male in the creative team is imperative for safeguarding in sessions and on residentials.

Essential:
-Strong experience in devising, directing or ensemble theatre-making.
-Experience creating high-quality theatre and facilitating workshops with young people.
-Excellent storytelling, communication and collaborative skills.
-Commitment to working with young people from refugee backgrounds.
-Desirable: Scriptwriting, filmmaking, touring or trauma-informed practice.

Working days: Wed (office), Thurs and Fri (evening rehearsals), plus residential tours. Salary: £35,000 pro rata (2.5 days/week), plus approximately 12 residential days at £280/day

Job Responsibilities

Creative Delivery:
- Co-lead weekly sessions, supporting young people to devise, rehearse and perform original theatre.

- Build trusting relationships that encourage participation, creativity and wellbeing.
