Job Summary

Bucket Club are looking for an Assistant Designer to work on their new show Arthur, playing at Polka Theatre and The Egg, Theatre Royal Bath.

Job Description

Arthur is a magical new play by Marietta Kirkbride with original songs, based on Arthurian legend and the quest for a better world. It's made for audiences aged 6-12, and is playing in Polka's Y C Chan Theatre this summer before transferring to The Egg, Theatre Royal Bath for Christmas.

The assistant designer will work alongside designer Rebecca Jane Wood throughout the design process, rehearsal period and tech periods.

Fee:

£2980, broken down as 17 days across both runs.
Holiday pay paid at 0.53 days/week for a total of 3 week's work

Additionally, Bucket Club will provide 6 mentoring sessions with designer Rebecca Jane Wood to be arranged at mutually convenient times throughout 2026.

Bath:
Rehearsals: 2nd - 14th November

Job Requirements

Bucket Club, Polka and The Egg are looking for a London-based early career designer who would like to gain experience in mid-scale family work and transferring work between two very different performance spaces.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assisting in visual research.
  • Assisting in collating venue information.
  • Assisting in model making tasks required by the designer.
  • Attending relevant meetings as required by the designer.
  • Assisting in creating the final design and supporting documentation.
  • Attending rehearsals where appropriate and possible, agreed with the designer.
  • Running some costume fittings and feeding back notes to the designer.
  • Making relevant shopping trips for props or costume in collaboration with the designer and stage management.
  • Assisting the designer in responding to rehearsal notes and communicate with relevant team members regarding any changes to the design or new requirements as they arise from the rehearsal room.
  • Assisting in checking and signing off aesthetic elements.
  • Assisting in some prop and costume making.
  • Attending technical rehearsals.
  • Attending get in / fit up.
  • Assist in noting and actioning accordingly as agreed with the designer.
