Be the first to lead County Durham's newest cultural landmark.

Opening in summer 2026, The Light will be a major new cultural venue bringing together art, science, history, creativity and community. Expected to welcome 80,000-100,000 visitors each year, it will offer a bold contemporary exhibition programme, the new DLI Gallery celebrating the story of the "Durhams," vibrant learning and community spaces, a caf , retail offer, and flexible event and conference facilities-all set within beautiful natural grounds. Designed as a meeting place and a beacon for creativity, The Light will deliver unforgettable experiences that keep audiences returning.

We are seeking a dynamic, strategic and imaginative Venue Director to shape this landmark from day one. This is a rare opportunity to build a new venue from the ground up-defining its artistic vision, operational approach, visitor experience and long-term impact.

About You
You will be:
An inspiring cultural leader with experience in galleries, museums or multi-use venues
Skilled in developing ambitious artistic programmes and visitor experiences
Confident in team leadership, partnership building and commercial development
Passionate about widening access, community engagement and inclusive culture
Excited by innovation, experimentation and creating something new

What You'll Need
