The Archivist will play a central role in developing and providing access to our nationally significant archive and object collections as part of the Homeward Bound II project. Responsibilities include appraising, arranging and cataloguing archive material to ISAD(G) standards, developing the use of the MODES collections management system, and supporting both physical and digital preservation of collections. The role involves monitoring collections usage, supporting digitisation through photography, scanning and metadata capture when needed, and contributing to the development of online Collections Browser galleries and thematic content. The post-holder will oversee rights management and ensure GPPR compliance, copyright legislation and professional standards. They will provide supervised on-site and remote access to collections for researchers, staff, volunteers, students and donor families, while responding to enquiries via email, phone and online appointments. The Archivist will contribute to public engagement and advocacy through PR, marketing and stakeholder engagement, helping to raise awareness of the collections through press, social media and partnerships with researchers and educators. Alongside the Head of Archives, the post-holder will support the development of collections policies and procedures and contribute to our Arts Council Museum Accreditation work. Additional responsibilities include supporting project reporting for funders and trustees, contributing to wider organisational activity, and occasionally undertaking evening or weekend work as required. We are seeking an experienced archivist with a postgraduate qualification in archive management (or equivalent professional experience) and strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
