Treadboard are looking for 3 female and 2 male actor/singers for the R&D of a new musical, BABY HURTS, taking place at Farnham Maltings, Surrey in September. BABY HURTS is a new musical, exploring motherhood. 'Becky can't wait to be a mum. A perfect mum. She revels in the giddy anticipation of an idyll, shaped by culture, media, and her friends and family. When things go wrong, she's catapulted into a new reality. After struggling to adapt to this unexpected version of motherhood, Becky eventually finds the strength to cope, accept her life as it is, and embrace the complicated delights of being mummy to a baby with additional needs'. BABY HURTS is a character led narrative which incorporates an eclectic mix of musical styles, from two established songwriters. Think Avenue Q meets Next to Normal meets Blood Brothers! Character breakdown: Dan/ensemble: mid-late twenties (playing age), any vocal range Matt/ensemble: mid - late twenties (playing age), any vocal range Becky: mid twenties (playing age), Soprano or Mezzo Anna/ensemble: mid - late twenties (playing age), any vocal range Mrs Dagnell/Susan/ensemble: mid - forties + (playing age), any vocal range and ability to play electric guitar, a bonus This is an ACE funded project, supported by Farnham Maltings and will include a weeks rehearsal and two sharings to general public and invited industry audiences. DATES: September 22nd - Saturday 27th September PAY: £590 plus reasonable travel expenses Actors should be ideally located in Hampshire/Surrey or within a reasonable daily commutable distance to the venue. If you apply from further afield it is unlikely your accommodation would be covered, if cast. The purpose of this R&D period is to play with and to rehearse (off book ideally) a few sections and up to five numbers from the show and to produce a 45-60 minute showcase, to an invited audience of industry producers, venues, creatives etc, as well as general public, to garner interest to take the project to the next stage of development. Cast will be sent the script, character breakdowns and the songs before rehearsals start in order to be able to familiarise themselves with the material.
