The Activity Plan, Interpretation & Learning Consultant will lead the development of the Activity, Action and Interpretation Plans required for the National Lottery Heritage Fund Stage 2 submission. The role focuses on audience insight, community engagement, pilot activity delivery, and shaping high quality interpretation aligned with capital works. Key Responsibilities We are offering this position as a freelance consultancy post starting in January 2027 and ending in November 2027 with a budget of £30,000 (exc VAT) but including all expenses. The successful applicant will be expected to work flexibly over the 11 month period to meet the following deadlines We expect the appointed consultant/organisation to be familiar with present NLHF guidelines and Heritage 2033 strategy published in January 2024 and ensure that the Activity, Action and Interpretation Plans falls in line with this and NLHF's new Investment Principles. As part of the Activity Plan, we are also looking for the consultant/organisation to consider interpretation opportunities which can be integrated into projects for the activity plan. Job Description
Deliver a structured consultation programme using surveys, interviews and focus groups.
Undertake audience segmentation and analyse barriers to engagement for priority groups including young people in deprived areas, neurodiverse people, people with dementia, mental health needs and under represented cultural communities.
Build relationships with project partners across bell ringing, pilgrimage, crafts, natural history and education.
Plan and deliver community based pilot activities to test concepts from the outline Activity Plan.
Draft Sections 1 and 2 of the NLHF Activity Plan and propose activities, costs and evaluation methods for Section 3.
Develop interpretation concepts and ensure alignment with capital works.
Produce volunteer recruitment and engagement strategies.
Benchmark comparable heritage sites and summarise effective engagement models.
Produce draft and final Activity, Action and Interpretation Plans with supporting briefs/job descriptions.
Work closely with the Business Planning & Fundraising Consultant to ensure cohesion across NLHF documents.
Attend Project Board meetings, provide regular updates and support timetable, milestone and risk development.
