2 x London-based Performers with strong movement skills (and/or dance)
Whistle Stop is an interactive, immersive non-verbal sensory experience for people living with dementia and their carers. In the span of an hour, we will tell a story about trains and travelling. From the everyday commute to a high alpine adventure, across deserts and ravines, featuring would-be honeymooners and fare-dodging jokers, the high speed and the high jinx of the legendary railroads which have entranced people everywhere, all around the world and just around the corner. Calling at: Romance, Reunion, Lost and Found, Brief Encounter, and Journey's End. Join us on the Whistle Stop Special to visit your favourite destination. Fee: ÂŁ726 per week, plus holiday, pension, and allowances Dates: 11/05/26-15/05/26, 15/06/26-19/06/26, 29/06/26-3/7/26, 6/07/26-10/07/26, 13/07/26-17/07/26 Locations: SDH Space, 9 Havelock Walk, SE23 3HG (rehearsals); various London locations (performances)
We are looking for two generous-spirited, inventive performers with strong improvisation, non-verbal and movement skills (or dance background). The performers will form a contrasting and complementary duo in a semi-devised piece about 45-55 minutes long. Any gender (or gender expression), age, or ethnicity may work in either role. We particularly welcome applications from performers with global majority backgrounds. You need to be a good time-keeper, able to retain the work as devised, work inclusively and recognize the importance of the off-stage work as well as the integrity of the onstage performance.
There is a high level of close-up interaction with small audiences (8-12 people). The performances take place in residential care homes or day care groups. Experience of dementia arts is an advantage but we are always keen to share this work with new artists, so training and guidance will be given on dementia and safeguarding. It is likely the performers will take on multi-roles and cameos in this semi-devised piece. The working day will involve all company members in daily get-ins and get-outs, costume and prop maintenance.
Please send a short cover letter explaining why you’d like to be considered for this project and the skills and qualities you will bring to it. Please attach your professional performance CV with photo. If you have a show reel or links to non-verbal or movement work that’s very helpful but don’t stress about making anything specially for us. If you need to use alternative format for the cover letter, a video of no more than 2 minutes please. Please send your submission to [email protected]
