Role: The charity that runs the National Videogame Museum is looking for a Venue Manager to oversee day to day operations at the Museum, lead the venue crew and deliver a high quality visitor experience. Reporting to the Director of Visitor Experience, the Venue Manager will manage a team of around 10 staff and crew.

Accountabilities

  • Reporting into the Director of Visitor Experience (DVE), deliver a high quality visitor experience at the Museum;

  • Manage ticketing, shop and event hire at the Museum

  • Deliver operational plans, objectives and metrics for the Museum;

  • Help grow and diversify audiences.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage venue: Run daily operations as duty manager and primary key holder, ensure services are operational as scheduled; manage EPOS system, deliver visitor experience.

  2. Oversee maintenance: Ensure compliance with Covid, health & safety, fire regulations, ensure cleanliness, manage risk assessments and external suppliers.

  3. Manage team: Recruit/induct/train/roster venue staff and volunteers, undertake performance reviews, develop a highly motivated team

  4. Oversee retail: Manage, order and track retail stock/sales.

  5. Manage Corporate Hospitality: liaise with clients, promote hire of venue

  6. Liaise with other BGI teams: attend all-hands meetings, supply visitor reports to Directors and implement strategies.

Essential criteria

Knowledge: health and safety issues; ticketing systems; some financial reporting; 

Experience: team management; managing a museum or equivalent visitor attraction; minimum 2 years working in a busy customer-focused environment, preferably with retail component; managing/delivering a consistently high standard of customer service; safeguarding children/young people; understanding of equal opportunities in service delivery and employment.

Skills: team leadership; maturity and responsibility; good numeracy, literacy and technology literacy levels; spreadsheets/reporting; autonomy; creative problem solving and adaptiveness; working within a creative team or industry preferable; multi-tasking under pressure; excellent communications skills; organised, can recognise priorities and assign tasks/deadlines.

Location: As primary key holder you must be within easy travel distance of the Museum.
