Culture Calling is among the UK’s leading marketing specialists in the arts, culture and leisure sectors. Culturecalling.com is our cultural recommendations site focusing on the best events happening around the UK, with particular focus on London, Brighton, Bristol and Manchester.
To support the running of the website, we operate a rolling six-month internship for those looking to gain experience in arts journalism. You’ll get the opportunity to attend press events and work with a fun, friendly team (including Lola the office pupper) at our Dalston office.
The successful applicant will help to run the areas of the website that focus on the UK outside of London, ensuring their look, feel and content are perfect for Culture Calling readers. This will involve:
Working extensively with the CMS system to create and manage online content.
Writing and uploading event listings, interviews, competitions and features.
Interacting with PR agencies and press departments to secure the most exciting opportunities.
Attending press events and visiting venues to create great content for the website.
Commission and sub-edit work from a small team of UK-wide freelance writers.
The ideal candidate
Be fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Have an interest in UK arts and culture.
Have an interest in writing and journalism (to include editing, proofing and copywriting)
Be IT confident with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Be proactive when sourcing content, as well as contributing ideas to future content.
Have a good knowledge of UK events.
A background in online journalism, whether this be on a blog or other cultural sites.
An understanding of SEO.
Experience in other forms of digital content creation, such as video or podcasts.
