1927 is a Margate and London based theatre company specialising in creating exhilarating hybrid stage productions that synchronise performance and live music with handcrafted animation. Over the last decade 1927 has worked across theatre and opera to craft productions of ambition and scale for audiences in the UK and across the globe.  To date 1927’s work has been seen by over 850,000 people, in 40 countries, across 6 continents. 

The Role:

We are searching for a Composers Assistant to work with us on the final creation stage of our new theatre show, roots. 

The purpose of this role is to assist 1927’s Composer Lillian Henley and Director Suzanne Andrade, throughout the upcoming rehearsal period (1 April – 18 May). 

The role would suit a recent graduate and/or somebody who wishes to work in theatre, opera or musical theatre – potentially as a musical director or assistant musical director. 

 The Composers Assistant will be required to:

  • Be able to read music to a high standard. 
  • Translate the Composer and Directors ideas to the musicians, and communicate effectively with everyone in the rehearsal room.   
  • Note take in rehearsal for the Composer.
  • Work closely with the Production Manager, Technical Manager and 1927 Creatives - at times assisting the cueing of video and sound to music.
  • Re write musical ideas for musicians to sight-read.

Terms

  • Salary: £3,500 fixed term fee for 7-week process + accommodation and travel for production week.
  • Location: Rehearsals will take place in London and Cornwall, with some possible work in Margate.
