Assistant Director Placement (Part-Time)


In order to address the current lack of cultural diversity across the industry, 20 Stories High, Talawa, Tiata Fahodzi and Freedom Studios have joined forces with the Independent Theatre Council and the Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme to create the Artistic Director Leadership Programme (ADLP)

The Opportunity

20 Stories High is seeking an Assistant Director to join the 20 Stories High team for a 5-month part-time placement from March-July 2019. As part of the ADLP, this opportunity is specifically for People of Colour.

The Assistant Director placement will include:

  • Assisting our Associate Director on a 20 Stories High Young Actors Company international production
  • Assisting our Associate Director on the R&D for a new show
  • Leading their own R&D process on a their project idea
  • Participating in company creative and participation planning processes.

Who We Are Looking For

Our Assistant Director will have:

  • An ambition to work as a professional theatre director
  • An interest in working with culturally diverse and working class young people
  • An idea for a new theatre project they are passionate about making
  • A hunger for developing their skills and their knowledge of theatre-making.

The assistant director must be over 18 and have a base in the North West.

Terms and Conditions

Overall dates: March - July 2019

Hours of working: Averaging 10 days/month, this will involve a variety of daytime, evening and weekend hours to be negotiated. It will definitely include Monday evenings on an ongoing basis. 

Fee: £4250 (based on 50 days @ £85/day)

There will also be a £3500 budget allocated for their R&D project.

The successful appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and DBS check.
