Administration Support (Freelance Position), Poetry Book Society


Salary: £18,750 pro rata

Part Time: 1 day/week

Location: remote working (our office is based in Newcastle upon Tyne)

Contract: temporary freelance, 3-month probation period.

The Poetry Book Society, a unique membership organisation established in 1953 by T. S. Eliot and based in Newcastle upon Tyne, is seeking a skilled administration assistant with excellent organisational skills and a talent for customer service to join our team, part-time, in a support role on a freelance basis.

The successful candidate will assist the current PBS administrator, who is moving from working full-time to part-time. They will be a crucial team member, ensuring we maintain and improve our member services, and will have an opportunity to assist across a range of responsibilities.

This role will suit fast learners with an eye for detail and excellent interpersonal skills, who are looking to expand their skillset across a diverse range of customer service and administration responsibilities, and to gain knowledge of the publishing industry. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or equivalent, seeking entry-level experience in a busy publishing environment.

This position will include communicating with our members by email and telephone, assisting with maintaining and improving our member database and our expansive online book store, logging and producing invoices, and may also involve producing copy. As you will be working with personal and financial information, careful attention to detail is crucial. Strong IT skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly will be vital.

As a remote working role, there is no set location for this position, but you will need access to the internet and will be required to join regular online calls with fellow team-members for progress updates. While being based in Newcastle or the North-East of England isn’t essential, it may be beneficial in the long term as the role develops.
